Collection :Koleksi Malaysiana (Malaysiana Collection)
Description : Perpustakaan Peringatan Za`ba (Za`ba Memorial Library)
holds UML’s core collection of Malaysiana, consisting of monographs
and serials on Malaysia or published in Malaysia; Romanised and
Jawi texts pertaining to the Malay language and culture; original
manuscripts; Malaysian conference proceedings; Government publications;
Chinese peranakan literature; the collection of the late Father
Manuel Joaquim Pintado (mainly Portuguese materials pertaining to
the history of the Portuguese exploits in the Far East, particularly,
Malacca); and private collections, such as those of the late Tan
Sri Zainal Abidin bin Ahmad (Za’ba), the family of Ibrahim
bin Haji Yakob, the family of Major Dato’ Haji Mohd Said bin
Haji Sulaiman, and UM’s former Vice-Chancellor, Royal Professor
Ungku A. Aziz.

COLLECTION OF TUN MAHATHIR
BACKGROUND
On 3rd August 2003, the government has officially approved the formation
of Institute Of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's Thoughts in Universiti
Utara Malaysia. The institute focuses in research and studies in
politics, socio culture and Tun Mahathir’s endeavors in achieving
the country’s accomplishments.
In line with this, Perpustakaan Sultanah Bahiyah has agreed to
establish and develop Tun Dr. Mahathir’s Collection which
will act as a learning and research centre on Tun Dr. Mahathir.
At the moment, the collection is placed at the fourth floor of the
library building.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COLLECTION
The library has initiated the effort to acquire all forms of resources
on Tun Dr. Mahathir which include monographs, articles (from journals
and magazines), audio visual materials and newspaper excerpts.
At the same time, newspaper titles written by Tun Dr. Mahathir have
been photocopied since 1992-1993.
Except for the video cassette, all the resources can be accessed
from Perpustakaan Sultanah Bahiyah’s Collection.
THE MANAGEMENT OF THE COLLECTION
All the resources available in Tun Dr. Mahathir’s Collection
are restricted and they are not allowed to be borrowed except for
photocopying (with permission).
All research can be done in a designated area within the library
vicinity.

Special Collection
The collection was donated by Professor Chin Hoong Fong, UPM retired
Professor. The collection is kept in Special Collection Division,
Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad.

Centre
for Academic Information Services (CAIS) - UNIMAS
Special Collection
This is a closed access collection, comprising of publications
on Borneo, the University’s publications as well as private
collections. The Special Collection is housed at Level 3. Access
to this collection is restricted and used in the Centre on a 2-hourly
basis.
The Borneo collection comprises of all materials on Borneo such
as books, journals, conference proceedings, seminar paper articles
etc.
The private collections were initiated in 2001 with contributions
from Prof. Marvin Rogers. His private collection is mostly on Southeast
Asia. His scholarly research focused on Malaysia and the patterns
of social economic and political change during the 20th century.
He has lectured at most of the major centres of Southeast Asian
Studies in America, Britain and the Netherlands, as well as in Malaysia,
Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Ghana.
The Anthony Richards collection is particularly strong in the history
of Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia. His personal papers is an
extensive collection of photographs and negatives, the great majority
of which was taken by the late A.J.N. Richards himself during his
years as an administrative officer in Sarawak from 1939 through
1964.Richards also wrote on the Saribas Malays. Especially notable
is his “The descent of some Saribas Malays” (Sarawak
Museum Journal, 1963, Vol 1, pp. 99-107) and Dayang Isah Tandang
Sari (a Saribas Malay legend in Malay and English translation, 1962,
Borneo Literature Bureau). He also left an unpublished transcript
of a Long Saribas Malay poem in Jawi, together with a romanised
transcription and notes. The collection also includes publication
dated back to 1881.
The University’s publications comprised of all materials
published by the University such as books, journals, conference
proceedings, seminars, research papers, articles, etc.

Special Collection (SC) refers to the unique collections of reference
materials, research papers and other published and unpublished materials
from MMU and other organizations and institutions. This collections
will support the academic and research activities for the university.

The Platinum Collection
The Platinum Collection pays tribute to prominent
individuals who have contributed extensively towards the development
of PETRONAS and UTP. This special collection aims to illustrate
the lives of the individuals from their humble beginnings to the
heights of their achievements. Materials, either on or by individuals,
are acquired from various sources such as PETRONAS, UTP, personal
contributions as well as external institutions and organizations.
Various types of materials are included ranging from books, speeches,
news clippings, periodicals, photos and videos. The collection will
be a valuable treasure for the younger generation as reference and
research resources.

Malaysia Education Collections
The Malaysia Education Collections is located on level 2 of the
library. It consists of text books, exercise books, education syllabus
and etc. All materials are for reference only within the collection
during opening hours. At present the library has more than 1,407
volumes and 1,325 titles collection of Malaysia Education.
Anak Kandung Collections
Anak kandung are collections that wrote by students during the
early ages of UPSI (SITC-IPSI) and published by Pejabat Karang Mengarang.
It consists of reports, articles, project papers, books and etc.
These collections are located on level 2 of the library. All materials
are for reference only within the collection during opening hours.
At present the library has more than 661 volumes and 121 titles

Personal Collections
This collection was entrusted to the library by the owner and family.
Consists of books, journals, conference papers, reports and etc.
These collections are located on level 3 and 4 of the library. All
materials are for reference only within the collection during opening
hours. At present the library has more than 160 volumes and 158
titles collection of Personal Collections.

Special Collection
Materials placed in the Special Collection are those considered 'unique' to the university, on specific subjects of interest to the university and for specific reason considered important by the library. It also includes personal collections donated to the library or purchase by the library.
